About Istvan Teleki

B.A. Providence College

After many years of serving Avalon as Lower School Coordinator, Istvan began his duties of Assistant Headmaster and Director of Admission in the fall of 2020. He is an Avalon founder, a gifted veteran teacher, and has spent the past 20 years teaching Lower School boys a wide array of subjects. Istvan has a particular fondness for Natural History, Avalon’s lower-school study of plants, birds and insects, and is founder and director of Avalon’s Natural History Camp. Istvan also brings multilingual skills to his positions at Avalon. He is fluent in Spanish and Hungarian, and has taught AP Spanish in the Upper School.

A Cum Laude graduate of Providence College, before joining the Avalon faculty he spent a year in Pamplona, Spain, teaching economics to freshmen in the Bilingual Program at the University of Navarre.

Istvan lives in Gaithersburg. MD with his wife Caitlin, and his eight children: Karoly (Avalon ’23), Joseph (Avalon ’25), Ignatius (Avalon ’35), John Paul (Avalon ’36), Felix Xavier (Avalon ’39) and daughters Lilianna (Brookewood ’27), Margaret (Brookewood ’28), and Lucy (Brookewood ’31).
