About Gil McPherson

B.A. Catholic University of America

Gil McPherson (Avalon ’11) returns to the Avalon faculty for his fourth year in the classroom. He will teach across the grades, including Lower School Math, Middle School English and Language Arts, and Upper School Algebra II.

The son of Richard McPherson, Gil, prior to signing onto the “family business” fulltime, worked in the non-profit sector and a tech startup, and served as a semester-long math teacher at Avalon.

Entering Avalon in its inaugural year as a fifth grader, Gil would go on to graduate as the class Salutatorian. During his years as a Black Knight, he served as Stewart House Captain and played varsity basketball, football, and soccer. He also performed in the school’s theatrical productions, talent shows, and the annual Spring Gala musical revue.

After a short stint at the University of Maryland, Gil continued his studies at The Catholic University of America (CUA) where he majored in Philosophy, graduating Cum Laude. He also served as a student leader of the lay ecclesial movement, Communion & Liberation.
An avid fan of folk music and Boston sports, Gil, his wife, Lydia, and their daughter, Lucy, live in Silver Spring, MD.
