What Does a Day Look Like?

Every day in Avalon’s kindergarten is designed to balance structure with freedom, learning with joy.

The Power of Play

Where curiosity, imagination, and growth come to life. Outdoor and indoor play are necessary components to an Avalon kindergarten.

Why Kindergarten at Avalon?

At Avalon, kindergarten is more than a classroom—it’s the first step in forming boys of virtue and curiosity.

A Day in Kindergarten

What Does a Day Look Like? Every day in Avalon’s kindergarten is carefully designed to balance structure with joy. Boys learn best when they feel safe, engaged, and active, and our daily rhythm reflects that.

  • The Right Morning

Starting the day with prayer, songs, and community.

  • Learning Blocks

Building early literacy and numeracy skills through engaging and fun lessons.

  • Outdoor Play

Recess and exploration in spaces made for boys to move, imagine, and create.

  • Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

Kindergartners work with trained catechists in the Atrium, learning about Jesus Christ, the good shepherd.

  • Orton-Gillingham 3-D (OG 3-D) Literacy Program

Taught by highly trained faculty, our reading instruction follows the Science of Reading and the OG 3-D approach. This evidence-based, structured, multisensory method breaks reading into manageable skills—phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension—building confident readers through explicit, sequential teaching.

The Power of Play

At Avalon, play isn’t just recess—it’s how boys learn best. Through building, creating, moving, and imagining, our kindergarteners develop problem-solving skills, strengthen friendships, and discover the joy of learning in action.

  • Exploring Outdoors

Hands-on discovery of nature, fostering curiosity and wonder.

  • Imaginative Role Play

Stories and pretend play that stretch creativity.

  • Collaborative Games

Learning teamwork, problem-solving, and perseverance. Even kindergartners love playing chess!

  • Creative Arts & Crafts

Expression through drawing, painting, and making.

What Our Parents think

The boys have the freedom to play well, and in that freedom they are curious to learn together about the world around them.
